A 1 p blue is mentioned in Walter Morley's catalogue
Here a luggage deoposti office label of the same company: 1 p
lilac.
At least 5 different stamps must have been issued before 1898 (since they are listed in Walter Morley). These are probably in the following design (a 1/4 p, 1/2 p, 1 p, 2 p, and 3 p, all in black exist):
A later label (around 1914?). In this design "Dundee and
Arbroath Joint Railway" I have seen another 15 Sh brown
value. I have seen another 4 p brown stamp with vertical lines at
the bottom and "Dundee and Arbroath Joint Ry." written
in one line.
"L.M.S.-L.N.E. Dundee & Arbroath Joint Railway";
3/4 p black on red. I have also seen 2 p, 3 p, 4 p, all in black
on red. Very similar labels were issued for the
"L.N.E.R.".
Issued in the 'Scottish' design, with vertical lines at the
bottom. I've also seen 1 Sh brown. Click

"EASTERN AND MIDLANDS RAILWAY" in green, overprinted
"SINGLE NEWSPAPER 1/2 d"

The Walter Morley catalogue lists a 5 p black on blue only.
1865 "ONE Newspaper Only" black on blue and blue on
white, and a similar label for two newspapers.
1/2 p "FURNESS RAILWAY" and 1/2 p "THE FURNESS
RAILWAYS", "PREPAID SINGLE NEWSPAPER" and
"PREPAID PARCEL NEWSPAPER" (2 p)
"THE FURNESS RAILWAYS CAVENDO TUTUS PREPAID PARCEL MILK
OWNER'S RISK.", I've also seen 6 p red and 9 p red in this
design.
Similar label ask above, but "MILK" replaced by
"NEWSPAPER".
This railway company started its operations in 1873 and was jointly owned by the Caledonian Railway and the Glasgow and South Western Railway.
2 p black on lilac "PREPAID Newspaper Parcel UNDER 7
LBS.".
Glasgow, Barrhead & Kimarnock Joint Railway
("G.B.&K. Joint Railway")
A whole sheet of 1 p 1868 stamps.
1868: "PREPAID NEWSPAPER PARCEL Under 56 lbs."
According to Walter Morley's catalogue, the
following values should exist:
(no value) black on white "For ONE Nwspaper Only."
1 p black on white "Up to 5 lbs." (see image above)
2 p black on white "Under 10 lbs."
3 p black on white "Under 14 lbs."
4 p black and red on white "NEWSPAPER PARCEL"
1 p black on white "Under 3 lbs." (also with no stop
after "lbs" or with a line under "3 lbs.").
1914(?): Inscription "PARCEL STAMP G.&S.W.RAILWAY":
1 Pound black. I have also seen the values 1 p, 4 p, 6 p, 9 p, 10
p, 1 Sh 6 p, 2 Sh, 2 Sh 6 p, 3 Sh, 4 Sh, 15 Sh, all in black. The
station name is usually indicated at the bottom.
"G.C. & NORTH STAFFS RAILWAYS COMMITTEE", 5 p black
parcel stamp. I've seen a 9 p black in the same design.
The Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway changed its name to 'Great Central Railway' in 1899. In 1923 it joined the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER).
2 p blue "Prepaid Newspaper Parcel". I've also seen 1
p, 3 p, all in blue. I've also seen a 1 p blue in this design
from the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway..
1919(?) design, "PREPAID PARCEL" 8 p red, I have also
seen 10 p grey and 11 p brown.
The Great Eastern Railway was formed in 1862 by joining a number of smaller railroads.
1879 issue? Note the differnt types of the 1 p value.
With "L.&N.E." overprint for London & North
Eastern Railway, which was formed in 1923 and stopped in 1948.
"EXPRESS PARCELS SERVICE" 2 p blue and 6 p orange.
1883 3 p red and green "CORN SAMPLES"
Issued around 1905(?). I also seen a 1 p, 2 p, 4 p, 6 p, 9 p, 10
p all in green (with or without "LIVERPOOL STREET").
Also a 9 p green and black with "9D." and
"LIVERPOOL STREET" in black
"NEWSPAPERS, PERIODICALS, AND BOOK PARCELS" or
"NEWSPAPERS ONLY.".
"For ONE Newspaper Only" black on blue, no value
indicated.
10 p red "PARCEL STAMP". I have also seen the 1 Sh 6 p
red in the same design. The Highland Railway and several other
railways issued similar labels. Click
