Erasmo Oneglia was an Italian forger in the late 19th century.
He is famous for his engraved forgeries, but he also made
photo-lithographed forgeries. Many of his forgeries were
previously attributed to the forger Angelo
Panelli. The engraved Oneglia forgeries are usually
'overinked'.

A very peculiar 'star' or 'flower' cancel used on some of
Oneglia's forgeries.
A "1V" elliptic cancel which Oneglia used for his
forgeries of Victoria. But he also used it on this 4 p Virgin
Island forgery and even on a St.Vincent forgery. The book The
Oneglia Engraved Forgeries by Robson Lowe & Carl Walske also
shows a 1 Sh Nevis forgery with this Victoria cancel.
Circle consisting of 'squares'.
Four concentric circles on forgeries of the United States, Turks
Islands, Newfoundland, Bahamas, Netherlands Indies and Shanghai.
The book The Oneglia Engraved Forgeries by Robson Lowe & Carl
Walske also shows a 1 Sh of Nevis with this cancel.
"8" in lined ellipse; New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova
Scotia and New South Wales
Watermarks (forged):
Another peculiarity of the Oneglia forgeries is that he often forged watermarks, to give more credibility to his forgeries, either by impressing it or marking it in oil. Examples:
Many of the Oneglia forgeries have fake watermarks. Either an oil
imprinted watermark as on the British Guiana, Lagos and Tobago
forgeries. Oneglia forged both CA and CC watermarks.
This 4 p Cape of Good Hope Oneglia forgery has a forged oil
anchor watermark.
The watermarks that are impressed are done so very strongly such
that they can often be seen from the front already, such as on
this Dominica and Malta forgery.
Impressed 'flower' watermark for Lubeck.
Swan impressed watermark on Western Australia which can be seen
very clearly from the front of the stamp already.
Part of a pricelist of Oneglia from 1898, with an image of a
Jhalawar stamp. The text (in French) elsewhere in this pricelist
reads "JHALAWAR 1891 - 1 Paisa vert F.05"
The above shown image is the same as these forgeries of Jhalawar. I believe these could be Oneglia
forgeries.
1 Rupee Oneglia forgery of India (not listed in his 1906
pricelist, although overprints for Gwalior, Faridkot, Jeend and
Puttialla are).
