The forger Peter Winter made forgeries of several of these stamps, even blocks, misprints and proofs, examples:
(Winter forgeries: 2 s normal stamp and 2 s 'misprint' printed
together, I've also seen it with cancel 'LUEBECK 13 8 9-10')
Two forged 2 s Winter forgeries on a forged letter with forged
'LUBECK 20 10 11-12' Hufeisen cancel
Zoom-in on the stamps of the above envelope
I have also seen the following Winter forgeries
of Lubeck:
1/2 s lilac (cancelled)
1 s (cancelled)
2 s brown (uncancelled and cancelled)
2 1/2 s red (uncancelled and cancelled)
4 s green (uncancelled and cancelled)
and the following 'proofs': 1/2 s brown, 1 s brown, 1 s lilac, 2
s orange, 2 1/2 s brown and 2 1/2 s green.
(Probably other Winter forgeries on pieces of envelopes)
Winter forgeries, 'proofs' of the 1/2 s and 1 s values
(Winter forgery of the 1 s on piece of letter)
Cancels that were used on Peter Winter forgeries
are:
"LUBECK 20 10 11-12" (see image above)
"LUEBECK 17 2 8-9 A" in a double circle
"LUEBECK 7/4 12 -5 P.TH.u.TAX PA" in a double circle
"LUBECK PTH-TAX. P.A. Ton 2" in a half circle
"LUEBECK 29 1 12-1" in a double circle.
"LUEBECK 13 8 9-10"
5 bar cancels (see images above)
Fournier forgeries:
The above forgeries are the forgeries offered by
Fournier. Fournier offers them for 1.50 Swiss Francs (all 5
values) in his 1914 pricelist. The stamps that were distributed
with 'The Fournier Album of Philatelic Forgeries' were
overprinted with the word 'FAUX'. The cancels
given in this album are:
1) "LUEBECK 10/9" in a double circle
2) "LUEBECK 28/11 8-10 1/2 M" in a double circle (see
image above)
3) "LUBECK BAHNHOF" in two lines (as shown above on the
1 s stamp)
4) "LUBECK 6 10 8-9A" in a double circle
5) "L" in three circles
Forged cancels from a 'Fournier Album of Philatelic Forgeries',
reduced sizes
Forgeries from a Fournier Album.
By the way, I think Fournier offered the forgeries of the forger Engelhardt Fohl, since their forgeries appear to be similar. Nevertheless, the Serrane guide mentions these Fournier forgeries seperately; it might be that Fournier also prepared a forgery set of his own.
Engelhardt Fohl forgeries; the 1/2 sch
also exist of this forgery set. Note the spiky tail feathers. The
Serrane guide refers to these forgeries as the 'Dresden set'.
Here, such a forgery pasted on an old letter, the
"Falsch" overprint is hidden by the cancel.
Sperati forgery of the 2 1/2 Sch misprint
There exists an erroneous impression of the first issue: 2 1/2 Schilling brown ('Zwei ein halb'), it appears twice in a sheet of 200 stamps of the 2 Sch value. This error has been forged by Sperati:
Sperati forgery, image obtained from:
http://www.seymourfamily.com/rfrajola/Sperati/sgermany.htm
Sperati forgery 'proof', at the backside is written 'SPERATI
REPRODUCTION' in lilac ink with number '269' manually written in
the center.
It seems extremely difficult to distinguish this forgery from a genuine misprint. Nevertheless, the Sperati forgery has a small brown dot in the left upper part of the lower right '2'.
A set of forgeries, apparently made by the same forger:
The 1/2 Sch of this forgery set also exists with redrawn '1/2' in
the corners. Note the pointed white feathers in the tail.
Another set of forgeries, probably all made by the same forger, note that the cancel is 'LÜBECK' in a single circle without any date or some parallel lines:
Forgeries with very large inscription 'POSTMARKE' with slanting
'M', the tail is also very broad. The use of a '*LUBECK*' cancel
without any date indication makes me believe that they belong to
a set of forgeries made by a forger which
also made forgeries of other German States.
Two other forgeries, made by the same forger
Forgeries made in Italy (Oneglia, Panelli?) with impressed watermark. The
genuine watermark is never this clearly visible. I think the
forger tried to imitate the "LUBECK BAHNHOF" cancel,
but has changed the last "F" of "BAHNHOF"
into a "P" and the "K" of "LUBECK"
into a "R".
