Nossi-Be is a small island close to the northwest coast of Madagascar.

"NSB" Nossi Be cancel and circular date cancel "NOSSI-BE" on stamps of the French colonies.

A small number of the Peace and Commerce type ('Sage') of the French Colonies were send to Nossi-Be in 1878, 1879 and 1880, ranging from 1500 stamps for the lower values (1 c, 2 c, 4 c) to 15000 for the 40 c red. I've seen many stamps with a "NOSSI-BE 2 MAI 90" cancel, I presume these were cancelled to order.

Oneglia forgeries of the French Colonies with "HELLE VILLE 1E/17 SEPT 8? NOSSI BE" cancel.

Presumably a genuine "HELVILLE NOSSI-BE" cancel on a French Colonies stamp.

I've noticed that the cancel is often blue (the same color as the overprint). This appears to be a sign of genuineness according to 'France Colonies Philatelist Vol.11, No.5, 1943, page 19). The original overprints are in pale or dull blue, later reprints were done in ultramarine and indigo (by the same postmaster). Also note that the "8" of the year appears to be inverted in the cancel.

Forged overprints exist, example:

Forged overprint

Very dubious item, most likely a forged overprint. It appears to have a Senegal cancel.

Fournier forgery, the stamp, overprint and cancel "NOSSI-BE 10 OCT 95 MADAGASCAR" are all forged. Next to it the same forged cancel, but taken from a Fournier Album of Philatelic Forgeries. Note that the perforation of the stamp does not match in the corners.

Other forgery.
