Various stamps of India were overprinted with "PATIALA STATE" or "PUTTIALLA STATE" from 1884 onwards.

 

1884 Stamps of India (Queen Victoria) overprinted "PUTTIALLA STATE" in two curves

  1/2 a green
  1 a brown
  2 a blue
  4 a green
  8 a lilac
  1 R grey

All these stamps have watermark 'Star', except the 4 a which has watermark 'Elephant Head'. The overprint is usually in red, but the 1 a and 8 a exist with red and black overprint:

Very primitive forged overprint.

The 8 a lilac was also forged by the forger Erasmo Oneglia. Sorry, no image available yet.

Error with black and red overprint.

  1/2 a green (red overprint)
  1 a brown
  2 a blue (red overprint)
  4 a green (red overprint)
  8 a lilac
  1 R grey (red overprint)

I've seen several stamps of Patiala with the image of Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V and King George VI, with additional overprint "Telephone" or "Telephone Service", example:
