Receipt Bill or Draft

1860 "GOVERNMENT OF INDIA", 1 a lilac, the "HALF ANNA" in green overprint was issued in 1861. Next a "COURT OF S.CAUSES HALF ANNA CALCUTTA" and "ONE ANNA" overprint. The above shown overprint in red with a crown and "THREE CENTS" was used for Straits Settlements.

1861 "RECEIPT BILL OR DRAFT GOVERNMENT OF INDIA" 1/2 a lilac. This stamp was used in 1866 as official stamp and overprinted "SERVICE POSTAGE". Only the 1/2 a was issued in this design.

1869 "GOVERNMENT OF INDIA", only a 1 lilac a was issued in this design.

Various overprints: "MYSORE" overprint for the state of Mysore. Also Berar state, overprinted "BERARS" in red, blue or black. I've also seen "DHENKENAL STATE" in two lines and "TRAVANCORE". In 1893 this stamp exists overprinted with "ZANZIBAR" to be used in Zanzibar (beware of forged overprints, check the cancels!). Also one with "BRITISH SOMALILAND" (British Somaliland) issued in 1900.

Some kind of local overprint? "KARACHI MUNICIPALITY."

"HUNDI" overprint, unlisted in Forbin or Barefoot. Hundi is some kind of money transfer system in India.

"Court Fees" on 1 a lilac receipt stamp.Next a few "S.C.COURT CALCUTTA" overprints.

1904? Blue "C.E.P." overprint for the Chinese Expedionary Police.

Also a similar stamp with King Edward VII issued in 1903. Only the 1 a lilac value was issued in this design.

1904? Blue "C.E.P." overprint for the Chinese Expedionary Police.

Fiscal stamps with inscription "ALWAR RAJPUTANA" and "BHARATPUR" clearly inspired by the above designs.

Customs:

1863, "INDIA CUSTOMS" 1 a blue. Only this value was issued. I've seen it with a "CANCELLED" overprint.

This was the only customs stamp issued until 1957, when some stamps with inscription "CUSTOMS REVENUE STAMP" with an image of a boat and an airplane were issued.
