Some of these stamps have the value imprinted at the backside, examples:

20 l blue, frontside 20 l blue, backside "20" on the back

Some misprints exist concerning these backside values, missing numbers, inverted numbers etc.

Note on this issue: specialists distinguish a great number of printings, plates, numbers on the backside, etc. This gives rise to a considerable amount of confusion and it is a field for the specialist. Many proofs of the first Paris print also exist apparently.

Some stamps with 'SPECIMEN' overprint. This overprint is always in blue (on the postage due stamps in red).


Paris Exhibition reprints made in 1900, I've seen a similar stamp in black which I was told is an Oneglia reprint. I own such a black reprint myself and it looks pretty similar to the ones above. I now doubt that this is true....
