Forgeries, example:

Forgery!

The 'FALSCH' inscription on the above stamps, zoom-in.

The above forgery has the inscription "FALSCH" (which means 'forgery' in german) just below the kneeling lady. This forgery also exists with the overprint "FACSIMILE". I have seen copies with the word "FACSIMILE" partly erased.

Some other primitive forgeries:

Forgeries, next to it a forgery of Barbados, probably made by the same forger.

Forgery with an "G" barred cancel. Also another forgery with a 'star' cancel and a Victoria cancel. The forger Oneglia is known to have sold forgeries with such cancels. The "H" of "SHILLINGS" is slanting too much backwards.

Forgery, there is a black bar on a text reading "..ON & ADAMS". Perhaps some cut from an advertisement label?

Primitive imperforate forgery

1 Sh green and red, fiscal cancel?
Fiscal cancel.

For the specialist: the values 1 Sh and 5 Sh have the value shield open, the other values have the value on a lined background. Be careful with stamps of higher value, the fiscal cancellation is often removed and offered as mint stamps (or forged postal cancels are applied).

Forgeries:

The above forgeries of the 5 Sh have CA Crown watermarked paper (probably genuine paper?). The design is crude: the label with "5 s" seems to be slanting and is too small. The third forgery has a Ceylon "ULAPANE" cancel. All above forgeries made by Smeets? The original design (5 c Ceylon stamp?, see below) can still be vaguely seen in the value tablet.

Smeets forgery of the 5 Sh value, made by bleaching out a 5 c Ceylon stamp (shown to the right) and reprinting the St.Vincent design. The Kurenegala (Ceylon) cancel is still present. The other forgeries shown above, might also have been made by Smeets. The original design can still be vaguely seen in the value tablet.
