SAUDI ARABIA

Return To Catalogue

Before 1916 stamps of Turkey were used in Saudi Arabia. Example of two stamps used in Mecca:

1916 Arabic inscriptions

  1 Pa lilac
  1/8 Pi orange
  1/4 Pi green
  1/2 Pi red
  1 Pi blue
  2 Pi red (1917)

Issues for Nedsj (from 1925 on)

Examples:

Bogus issue, triangular stamp

violet
(Reduced sizes)

This stamp exists in green, red, blue, orange and violet. These bogus stamps seems to have been made in Warsaw (Poland), however other sources say Italy ( http://mysite.freeserve.com/saudi/forgtri.htm ). The mentionned website also shows much more information about these bogus stamps (even perforated stamps seem to exist). They appeared on the market around 1923.
