Forgeries

Forgeries of these stamps (both stamps and overprints are forged), with forged 'CORREIO GERAL da CORTE' cancels:

Mercier forgeries, images obtained from Bill Claghorn's forgery site: http://members.tripod.com/claghorn1p/Brazil/Brz125x.htm.

In these forgeries, the "C" of "CORREIO" is different (the bottom part of the 'C' doesn't curl up so much as in the genuine stamps), the "O"s of this word have broader space in the center. The "B" and "R" of "BRASIL" are further apart, etc. etc. They have a "CORREIO GERALDACORTE" cancel (with no date?). On https://classiclatinamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Brazil-Forgeries_compressed_compressed.pdf these forgeries are said to be made by Mercier around 1910. I don't think this is correct, since Mercier went bankrupt much earlier and his stock was auctionned off. I think rather they were a product of the forger Oneglia. These forgeries are listed in the 1906 Oneglia pricelist. Further proof is that that 1843 Oneglia forgeries have the same "GERALDACORTE" cancel.

Possibly a second type of imperforate forgeries exists. I've also seen bogus '1898 PROVISORIO' overprints in several types.
