Negri Sembilan is the smallest of the Malay States, its name means 'nine (Sembilan) states (negri)' in malay language because the country is consisted of 9 smaller states: Sungei Ujong, Jelebu, Johol, Rembau, Ulu Muar, Jempul, Terachi, Gunong Pasir and Inas.

In 1935 a new series was issued with the arms of Negri Sembilan (15 values, ranging from 1 to 5 $).

In 1941 two stamp were issued at the occasion of the Royal Silver Wedding, inscription '1923-1948'.
