Foreign bill

1862 Imperforate stamps with Queen Victoria facing to the right and "FOREIGN BILL" inscription

I have seen the following values: 1 p, 2 p, 1 Sh, 1 Sh 6 p, 2 Sh and 4 Sh (all in color brown).

 

1874 Head of Queen Victoria

These stamps exist of three parts with inscriptions: 'FIRST OF EXCHANGE', 'SECOND OF EXCHANGE' and 'THIRD OF EXCHANGE'.

The following values exist: 5 c green and lilac, 10 c grey, 15 c blue and lilac, 20 c violet and blue, 30 c brown, 40 c green and red, 45 c violet, 60 c brown and lilac, 75 c blue, 80 c yellow and black, 1 R red and blue, 1 R 20 c violet and green, 1 R 50 c green, 2 R grey and red, 2 R 25 c violet and 3 R orange. Various overprints exist (about 30), examples:

  "TWENTY 20" on 75 c blue 
  "20" on 1 R 20 c lilac and green
  "FORTY 40" on 75 c blue
  "FORTY CENTS 40 FORTY CENTS" on 1 R 20 c lilac and green
  "FORTY CENTS" on 1 R 20 c lilac and green
  "FORTY CENTS" on 3 R orange
  "60 SIXTY CENTS" on 1 R 50 c green
  "EIGHTY CENTS 80 EIGHTY CENTS" on 1 R 50 c green
  "ONE RUPEE ONE RUPEE" on 2 R 25 c lilac
  "ONE" on 3 R orange
  "TWO RUPEES" on 2 R 25 c lilac

 

1904 As before, but with head of King Edward

The following values exist: 5 c green and violet, 10 c grey, 20 c violet and blue, 40 c green and red, 60 c brown and violet, 75 c blue, 80 c yellow and black, 1 R red and blue, 1 R red and brown, 1 R 20 c violet and blue, 1 R 20 c violet and green, 2 R grey and red, 3 R brown, 3 R orange and 5 R brown and red.

Stamp Duty with "Warehouse Warrant" overprint: on the 5 c (horizontal or vertical in red or black in various sizes), on the 50 c (vertical or horizontal, various types)


With image of King Edward VII; 12 values, ranging from 5 c to 100 R. Also with "Warehouse Warrant" overprint (1903, 50 c only). And with "JUDICIAL" overprint (all 12 values).

Judicial stamps


"JUDICIAL" in red and "25 Cents" and bar in black on 1 c brown. Also "JUDICIAL" in red and "Fifteen cents" and bar on 20 c lilac

Several stamp duty stamps of Ceylon exist with overprint 'JUDICIAL'.


"FOR RECEIPT DRAFT ORDER", 1 p lilac of 1862 and Receipt stamp, 5 c lilac of 1872. Overprint 'STAMP DUTY" on 5 c lilac (1885).

Postage stamp, overprinted 'Postal Commisson' and surcharged with value:

Warehouse Warrant


Besides the "Warehouse Warrant" overprints shown above, this 1 Sh stamp is the only stamp with inscription "CEYLON WAREHOUSE WARRANT" that was issued.

 

1938 King George VI

A 10 R orange and grey and a 20 R in a similar design as the postage stamps but with "REVENUE" written at both sides:

 

1954 Queen Elizabeth II, inscription "REVENUE" twice


The values 20 R orange, 50 R brown, 100 R blue, 500 R green and 1000 R red were issued.
